Children's Day
The most important day for all children is about to come – Children's Day. As usual, Stołeczna Estrada doesn't forget about the youngest participants of the events in Warsaw: we are preparing an all-day fest: “Warsaw for Children”.
On May 30th (Sunday), between 11.00 and 19.00 hrs., at Agrykola and at the Royal Baths Park, children and their parents will have many attractions awaiting them, prepared by various institutions.
The event will start at 11.00 hrs.
Any one who decides to spend this day at “Warsaw for Children” will find something interesting for themselves. At Agrykola, there will be: a sports park and a biking route, a traffic park, horse-riding on police horses and ponies, a Hula Kula bowling alley, a Star Wars park and art workshops. There will also be a chance to win prizes in numerous competitions prepared at different spots.
At 13.00 hrs., a convoy of bicycles coming from the seat of the Polish Olympic Committee (the cyclists will start their route there at 11.30 hrs.) will reach Agrykola. The route, in short: Wybrzeże Gdyńskie – Plac Bankowy – Marszałkowska – Plac Konstytucji – Piekna – Górnośląska – Myśliwiecka – Agrykola.
The Ministry of Interior and Administration invites children to the biking park as part of the national police campaign “Reach your destination on bicycle safely.” There, all the biking fans will be able to test their knowledge of traffic laws under the eye of a friendly policeman, as well as try their luck at the bicycle obstacle course. Each cyclist carrying an invoice for his bicycle, will be able to mark his bike free of charge, as part of the “Mark your bike” action.

Winter in the City - Final
Location: Congress Hall
Starting date: 2010-02-12
Starting time: 13:00
FOSA – Free Holiday Artistic Meetings is a far-flung theatrical project for young adults of Warsaw that stays at home during winter holiday. For sever years, the Warsaw Cultural Education Centre has been preparing it in cooperation with Stołeczna Estrada and active artists involved in workshops and rehearsals participated by young adults.
The final effect of FOSA is a musical show the premier of which always occurs at the end of winter holiday in the Congress Hall of the Palace of Culture and Science. So far, we have staged performances based on themes of famous literary works, among others, “Pinocchio,” King Matthew I,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “The Two Who Stole the Moon.” This year we start production of young adult musicals dedicated to our city. Authors of all FOSA’s productions is Cezary Domagała, director, author of scripts and lyrics.
As always, we admit 150 participants aged 13 to 19 to the project. Work related to the show takes 2 weeks. Rehearsals will include chorographical, theatrical, vocal, articulation, drama lessons, as well as work in a record studio and rehearsals for the performance. We have assumed that everyone who applies for participation in the show will star in the performance prepared, regardless of the level of their skills. Artistic workshops are to teach young adults and increase their skills under the supervision of professionals.
This year we will see the musical: “Warsaw dream”. The musical focuses on young adults who live in the capital city, their dreams, problems, joys – they will be the ones to tell the story of their live and Warsaw. We will present Warsaw as a modern city that cultivates history and tradition; as a multicultural city.

Children’s Musical Gardens
Location: Cultural Promotion Centre Bielany, Szegedynska Str. no. 9
Starting date: 2010-02-02
Stołeczna Estrada and the Musical Gardens Foundation has been organising the events “Children’s Musical Gardens” for many years; they are organised in summer during the festival in a huge tent in the bailey of the Royal Palace and in winter in Community Centres in individual quarters of Warsaw. This year the event will take place in the Cultural Promotion Centre Bielany.
The project is to familiarise children with classical music, which will result in a greater interest in music in the future owing to experiences and sensations from the childhood.
Because 2010 is to be the Chopin’s Year, we have decided to familiarise children with Frédéric Chopin during the winter edition. In the first week, as a part of meetings “Chopin’s Childhood and Youth in Poland,” children will learn about Frédéric as a boy who once was their age. He published his first polonaise when he was 7; he played his first large recital at the age of 8. He was a wonderchild. We will not bore children with the theory of music, but will show them that he was a lively, happy and sharp-witted child with many talents, as he did not only play the piano and compose, but also was an able drawer, with literary and acting inclinations.
The second week of winter holiday will focus on the Genius and Fame of Chopin. Our room will turn into a concert hall featuring children of musical schools. Moreover, we will also learn about contemporary Chopin’s places in Warsaw: Frédéric Chopin’s Airport, Frédéric Chopin’s Musical University, Frédéric Chopin’s Museum, Chopin’s monument in the Royal Baths Park, banknotes, stamps, a school ship “Frédéric Chopin,” Chopin’s crater or even a planetoid named “Chopin.”
We will also learn about the tradition of International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competitions taking place every five years in Warsaw.
Irena Bogdanowicz, conductor, pianist and composer, will supervise the whole event, whereas Maciej Gąsiorek, actor famous for his role as Piksel in the programme “Alarm Clock” in TVP, will lead the successive days of meetings.
