Garlands on Vistula more important than football!
100,000 people in Podzamcze.
Garlands on Vistula are the biggest open event in our capital this summer. Over 100,000 people came to have a good time in Podzamcze. The people of Warsaw were entertained – among others - by Katie Melua, Edyta Górniak, Ryszard Rynkowski, Myslovitz, as well as L.U.C, accompanied by prominent guests, Wojciech Waglewski and Mateusz Pospieszalski. Kupala Night, organised by Stołeczna Estrada, ended with a spectacular fireworks show.
This is the first time the Kupala Night is organised on such scale in Warsaw. For many years, it's been the most visited family event in our capital. This year, as expected by Stołeczna Estrada, we've had the record-breaking turnout. The open formula and an abundant artistic programme attracted around 100,000 people to the Vistula. It is also important to mention the collaboration with Radio ZET and Polish Television which broadcast the event after the quarter-final football game between Spain and France.
The huge circular stage, sized 20 x 30 m, using the top quality sound system, hosted the performances from Polish stars: Edyta Górniak, Ryszard Rynkowski, Wilki and De Mono, as well as guest stars from abroad: Katie Melua, 77 Bombay Street and Racoon. What is important, there was also a spot for alternative artists: L.U.C. and Myslovitz.
The first to appear on stage was precisely the rapper from Wrocław. Winner of “Polityka's Passport” surprised the audience once again. Together with the leaders of Voo Voo - Wojciech Waglewski and Maetusz Pospieszalski, he performed “Umiem Internet.” Masters of beat-box, ZGAS and DJ Nativizm alongside Vienio from Molesta and Bond, bass-player in Miloopa, also appeared on stage. Their concert together lasted 40 minutes and was a powerful cocktail of genres. “Umiem Internet is a reflection on the mystical power of light that has attracted and hypnotised mankind for centuries. It used to be the fire, today it is more and more often the shiny screen that takes up almost all of our day,” said L.U.C.
After the departure of Artur Rojek, Myslovitz welcomed a new lead vocalist, Michał Kowalonek. The artists performed all of their greatest hits, as well as the singles from the new album, “Ukryte” and “Art. Brut.” Strong emotions could be felt during their show. “The reaction of the audience is really enthusiastic which adds to the already fantastic atmosphere in the band and in all our crew,” stated Myslovitz musicians after the concert.
After 10 p.m., Radio ZET stars appeared. The “Garlands” stage welcomed the return to the festival scenery of Edyta Górniak, accompanied by a group of dancers. Her performance was followed by that of the “Bitwa na głosy” (Battle of the Voices) talent show choir with their mentor, Ryszard Rynkowski, performing his famous hit, “Dziewczyny lubią brąz.” Younger audience also gave a . heartfelt welcome to the rising star of The Voice of Poland talent show, Damien Ukeje. De Mono also performed, as did Wilki and guest artists from abroad: 77 Bombay Street and Racoon. The star of the evening was Katie Melua, who was awarded the Platinum Record after her concert.
The Kupala Night of Greatest Hits ended with a spectacular, over 12-minute fireworks show prepared by Goldregen. Fireworks that all together weighed four tons created a blazing 300 metres wide picture in the sky.
Garlands on Vistula have been organised incessantly since 1996 by Stołeczna Estrada. Since then, over 500,000 people came to the bank of Vistula to have a great time to the songs from such stars as Europe, Kelis, Kosheen, Leningrad Cowboys, Lou Bega, Reamonn and Sunrise Avenue.
