Wianki nad Wisłą (Wreaths Over Vistula) is an event of a great tradition. It refers to the ancient St. John or Ivan Kupala Night rites dedicated to water and fire, which according to the ancient beliefs had purifying power. In the programme of the event, the contemporary mingles with the traditional.
A family picnic and a fair of handicraft and products prepared according to ancient recipes have always generated considerable interest among Warsaw residents and tourists who crowd to the event.
This year's edition will include a special feature: a family city game, prepared especially for the occasion. In order to free Sava from the hands of jealous Perun in the grand finale (at 18 hrs.), the contestants will have to outwit various demons and ghouls to get wreaths for Sava. Let's hope a joint effort will lead to the a reunion between Wars and Sava. All who come to the Vistula river will be able to see firsthand the Slavic gods and other fantastic game characters who, joined by the contestants, will release the wreaths to Vistula.
In the evening, the big stage in Sanguszki street will host a group of superb artists: Monika Brodka, Wilki and stars from abroad: KELIS and SUNRISE AVENUE.
As usual, the crowning of the night of fun will be a giant fireworks show.
